The year was 2017 and Derf had his first job of capturing groundhogs for a friend. They had dug themselves a den under his back deck and it was becoming a problem.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>With a live trap and some apples, Tom was able to remove the family of rodents and relocate them in a non-invasive wooded area where they could be a family-not-unwanted.<br \/><br \/>As a joke, he thought about starting a groundhog relocation service with the name, &#8220;Derf Nerfel&#8217;s Rapid Response Rodent Removal Service.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>Now &#8220;Derf&#8221; is simply &#8220;Fred&#8221; spelled backwards.\u00a0<br \/>&#8220;Nerfel&#8221; is a takeoff of his grandkids favorite toy, the &#8220;Nerf\u00ae&#8221; ball.<br \/><br \/>Unfortunately, Tom was so busy with other things of life, the service never really got off the ground. However, one of his life&#8217;s dreams was to write. (He has two book topics in mind and had quite a bit of writing done over many years but the discipline wasn&#8217;t there.)\u00a0<br \/><br \/>So, inspired by some friends, he began a daily blog on a famous social media website that made him discipline himself to write on a consistent basis.<br \/><br \/>Well, the books still sit there in note fashion but since January 1, 2018, Derf has been challenging people to ponder intricacies of life with his Thought of the Day. Some posts are meant to be humorous and others are meant to make you put your finger to your chin and say, &#8220;Hmmmm.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>If nothing else, it gives the&#8221; yacker&#8221; at the water cooler fodder to amaze and amuse coworkers.\u00a0\u00a0So, read on, my friends.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>And&#8230;<br \/><br \/>Keep thinking!\u00a0<script
